Pediatrician visit #3 of the week

The doctor appointment this morning went really well. The on call doc was really good with the kids. She even got some giggles out of my sickies, which was SO nice and refreshing. She made duck sounds when she pushed on their bellies, and birdie sounds when she checked their ears. It was just really nice. Anyhow, she chatted with us for quite awhile with what the kids are experiencing and how they are feeling. She explained that she thought that it was a viral infection and that it has probably run its course and is now just getting them back into the normal swing of things is what we are facing. She said that it usually takes awhile before foods go well again for them after a viral infection. The doctor explained that most of the time, when you get sick like this, the first nutrients to leave your system are the enzymes (lactase) that breaks down lactose. So, she said that is why people usually experience more diarrhea and stuff after having dairy while they are sick. Good to know. I told her that we think Wyatt is lactose intolerant, and that we have been staying away from dairy. She checked them and said that they both looked well hydrated which is the first thing that they check for during prolonged illness that they have had. Anyhow, she was very comforting in telling us that they are on the upswing and will slowly get progressively better. She offered to do blood work to check WBC count and such, but said that she was confident that they would turn up pretty well. The doc also explained that if it were something very serious (brain tumor, leukemia) that they would show other signs (I didn't want to be dramatic, but we lost a cousin at 4 years of age to leukemia) and symptoms that would be pretty obvious. Phewww.... Anyhow, so we went grocery shopping together today and ate lunch together, the kids played and I gave Wyatt his first dose of Lactaid, which thankfully didn't upset his belly. They are laying down for nap now, Wyatt is crying, but I think only in protest to nap, which is a good thing! Well kinda...
Anyhow, I was thankful to have Ben there and so entirely thankful for the prayers that we have had surrounding us, and that the kids are doing pretty well today!
Thank you for your prayers and for checkin out the blog ;)
